KUALA LUMPUR (April 19): As the rate of recovery has accelerated over the past week, the number of active positive cases in many states and federal territories (FT) has dropped below half the infection number, according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Health (MoH) today.

MoH statistics show that 14 out of 30 red zones now have less than 40 active Covid-19 cases.

However, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Sarawak are the one federal territory and two states where the active positive cases are more than half of the tally of infections.

In Kuala Lumpur, where the MoH will step up its screening and testing efforts among the migrant workers in downtown areas, there are 727 active cases — the highest among all states and FT — compared with its total infection number of 985 as of noon April 18.

Lembah Pantai, which covers part of downtown areas in the capital city, is the health district with the most infections in the country. Its active cases amount to 473 patients compared with a total of 613 confirmed cases.

In the other three red zones in KL, the number of active cases in Kepong is 121 (versus a total of 153), Cheras 49 (85) and Titiwangsa 84 (134).

In Selangor, the state with the most red zones, the number of active cases is 414, less than half of the total number of infections of 1,340 as of noon yesterday.

The number of active cases in Hulu Langat, where a few villages have been placed under lockdown, is 130, less than one third of the infection number of 445. Likewise, in Petaling, there are 120 active cases versus a total of 373, Klang (69 vs 173), Gombak (45 vs 144) and Sepang (23 vs 70).

Improvement is also seen in Johor, Perak and Sabah, where two red zones have less than 40 active cases in each of the states.

Meanwhile, the number of green zones increased to 47 (with zero active cases) from 26 previously, as 21 yellow zones now have zero active cases.

Malaysia has seen a decline in new cases over the past one week with new recoveries exceeding new infections.

Of 5,305 confirmed cases in Malaysia, 3,102 patients or 58.5% of the total have been discharged, while 2,115 patients or 39.9% are still receiving treatment. Some 88 patients or 1.7% succumbed to the virus.

Malaysia is the country with the fourth highest number of infections in Asean after Indonesia (6,248), the Philippines (6,087) and Singapore (5,992).
