KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): The Ministry of Health (MoH) is considering to conduct Covid-19 screenings on all food delivery riders in order to ensure their wellbeing and as a precaution to prevent them from being the cause of the virus' spread.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said Covid-19 tests are available at various government health clinics or private healthcare institutions where the riders could always get their tests done.
"We are now considering having all food delivery riders go through health screening. Only when they are healthy, they are allowed to deliver food," he said at the daily Covid-19 press conference.
"What is important is that we have to ensure the safety [of the riders] while they are at work. So we encourage them to come forward to go through health screenings whether in public health clinics or at private clinics," Noor Hisham added.
He said the costs of the tests should be borne by the food delivery companies.
However, Noor Hisham pointed out that the ministry does not have specific data on the number of positive Covid-19 cases among food delivery riders as yet.
