Covid-19: MoH detects new cluster of infection in KL

KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced a new cluster with 28 confirmed Covid-19 infections has been detected in Kuala Lumpur, where several parts of the downtown areas are currently under enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cluster of infections was detected at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

The infected patients are migrant workers. The source of infections of the new cluster is still under investigation, said Noor Hisham.

“We have investigated the construction sites, but we have no solid evidence yet whether this new cluster is related to the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market or Kampung Baru clusters,” said Noor Hisham at a media briefing today.

However, he did not reveal the location of the new cluster in the capital city.

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa posted on his Facebook page today that 27 new confirmed positive cases were detected at a construction site at Jalan Ampang.

Consequently, property developers and contractors in Kuala Lumpur have been instructed to get their workers tested for Covid-19.

He said the expenses of the Covid-19 tests on the workers should be borne by the employers.

The MoH reported 122 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 70 are local infections while 52 are imported cases.

The number of active cases, which carry transmission risks, increased further to 1,780. The daily new cases figure has reversed its downtrend, it has been on the rise for the fourth day.

The MoH announced 87 recoveries today, bringing the total to 4,413, representing 70% of overall cases.

The 52 imported cases were detected in Negeri Sembilan (50), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Putrajaya (1).

There are two new deaths, the country’s death toll is at 105.

Malaysia’s total confirmed cases rose to 6,298 today.
