KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has highlighted that the two age groups with the highest fatality rate are the groups that are 61-70 years old and 71-80 years old. 

So far, there are 32 deaths in the 61-70 age group, while 19 cases are from the 71-80 age group.

Noor Hisham, at a media briefing today, also pointed out that smokers, individuals with obesity problems and the non-communicable disease (NCD) groups, such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure and cancer, have a higher death risk from Covid-19 infections as well.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 122 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 70 are local infections while 52 are imported cases.

The number of active cases, which carry transmission risks, increased further to 1,780.

The daily new cases figure has reversed its downtrend, it has been on the rise for the fourth day. 

MoH announced 87 recoveries today, bringing the total to 4,413, representing 70% of overall cases.

MoH reported two new deaths, the country’s death toll is at 105, representing a mortality rate of 1.66%.

Malaysia’s total confirmed cases rose to 6,298 today.
