KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 122 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 70 are local infections while 52 are imported cases, said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The 52 imported cases were detected in Negeri Sembilan (50), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Putrajaya (1).

The number of active cases, which carry transmission risks, increased further to 1,780.

The daily new cases figure has reversed its downtrend, it has been on the rise for the fourth day.

The MoH announced 87 recoveries today, bringing the total to 4,413, representing 70% of overall cases.

The ministry reported two new deaths; the country’s death toll is at 105, representing a mortality rate of 1.66%.

The deceased were both men, aged 82 and 64 respectively, who had high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and kidney failure.

Malaysia’s total confirmed cases rose to 6,298 today.

Dr Noor Hisham, in a media briefing today, said there are two age groups that have recorded the highest death toll in Malaysia — the 61 to 70 age group, and 71 to 80 age group.

So far, 32 cases have been detected among those aged between 61 and 70, while 19 cases came from those aged between 71 and 80.

Other than that, those who smoke or are obese among non-communicable disease (NCD) groups, such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure and cancer, have a high risk of death from Covid-19 infections.
