KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): Besides the 52 imported cases, of the 122 new positive Covid-19 cases detected today, 17 are from the KL Wholesale market cluster while 16 are from the Chow Kit market cluster, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

There are 17 new cases confirmed in the Sendayan tahfiz cluster in Seremban.

Tahfiz Lanchang school has six new cases, Kampung Baru in Titiwangsa has one case, and the Kuching church event in Sarawak has one case.

Among the 52 new imported cases, 50 infections are related to the Pesantren cluster detected among Malaysian students who returned from Indonesia’s Magentan region.

It is worth noting that community infections and non-cluster cases are a minority of the total. There are three new cases detected in Sarawak today, three in Melaka, four in Negeri Sembilan and one in Sabah.

The MoH announced a new cluster with 28 confirmed Covid-19 infections has been detected in Kuala Lumpur, where several parts of the downtown areas are currently under enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cluster of infections was detected at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

The infected patients are migrant workers. The source of infections of the new cluster is still under investigations, said Noor Hisham in a media briefing today.

A total of 24 cases was confirmed in three EMCO areas in KL, namely Selangor Mansion (three cases), Pusat Bandar Utara and Kuala Lumpur wholesale market (17 cases), and Selayang Baru (4 cases).

However, three other EMCO areas, Menara City One, Malayan Mansion and Sungai Lui village, have not recorded any new cases today.

The MoH has detected 34 clusters and sub-clusters so far.

The Sri Petaling tabligh cluster remains the largest cluster as it has developed the fifth generation of infection with 2,241 positive cases as of noon today.

The MoH has taken 34,912 samples from this cluster for testing.

The ministry has reported 122 new Covid-19 cases today and 87 recoveries.

Malaysia’s total infection number increased to 6,298 while the number of cured cases climbed to 4,413, representing 70% of overall cases.

With two new deaths today, the country’s death toll is now at 105.
