MELAKA (March 30): Lendu state assemblyman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali went to his office at the Melaka Chief Minister's Office, Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here as usual on Thursday (March 30).

This was despite the announcement of his resignation as the Melaka CM by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Wednesday.

Sulaiman was seen arriving at the Seri Negeri Complex after leaving the CM's official residence at Seri Bendahara at 8.59am with a police escort.

However, it cannot be ascertained whether Sulaiman went to the office to continue his duties as the CM or just to meet with the staff.

Speculation about the appointment of the new Melaka CM began circulating on Wednesday, following messages that went viral on the WhatsApp application about the new CM's swearing-in ceremony that will take place on Friday.

Among the names mentioned to replace Sulaiman as the new Melaka CM is Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is also the Melaka Umno liaison chairman.

Meanwhile, attempts by media practitioners, who had been waiting at the entrance of the Seri Negeri Complex to get his reaction, were futile on Thursday.

Sulaiman left the office in his official car at 11am.
