KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): Khazanah Nasional Bhd has appointed outgoing Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) chief financial officer (CFO) Datuk Amriul Feisal Wan Zahir as its managing director (MD), effective July 16.

In a statement, the sovereign wealth fund said Amriul Feisal will be taking over from Datuk Shahril Ridzuan, who will be departing to pursue his personal interests upon the expiry of his contract with Khazanah.

Khazanah welcomed Amirul to its board and expressed confidence that with his expertise and experience, it will be able to progress further in delivering on its mandate.

It also thanked Shahril for his service and contribution throughout his tenure as MD, particularly for his leadership in successfully implementing a strategy that has made Khazanah more resilient and capable of navigating challenges posed by the pandemic.

Amirul Feisal had been Maybank CFO since July 1, 2016. Prior to that, he had joined the bank as its group, head of global banking in 2014.

He was also Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd’s MD from 2010 to 2014.

“Datuk Amirul was previously executive vice president, special projects at Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) in 2010, and managing director, head of investment banking at Maybank Investment Bank Bhd from 2008 to 2010, where he was responsible for the investment banking, corporate finance, equity capital markets and venture capital divisions. He has also served as executive director at Binafikir Sdn Bhd, as well as in various management capacities at Citigroup Global Markets (Asia) Ltd, Salomon Smith Barney, Schroders, and KPMG.

"Datuk Amirul is a chartered banker, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Accounting and Finance) from the London School of Economics,” the statement read.

Today’s announcement confirmed The Edge’s report last week (June 21) that Amirul Feisal would take over the reins from Shahril at Khazanah.

Amirul Feisal announced his departure from Maybank effective July 15 yesterday, saying that he will be the MD of a government-linked company (GLC).
