KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Pakatan Harapan remains against the idea of appointing politicians into government-linked companies (GLCs), unless the candidate is qualified for the position, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Speaking at a press conference today, Anwar said the coalition's stance is clear on political appointees in GLCs, although it is not an official policy yet under the Federal Government.
"The changes that have been implemented by the government so far are good enough. We cannot reject all the candidates. Not all of the political appointees are unreliable, if a candidate is qualified, we can consider," he said.
"We also cannot assume that these politicians [who intend to lead GLCs] are corrupted, nor can we presume that they are not corrupted, as corruption happens everywhere, be it politicians or civil servants, so our aim is to eradicate corruption," he added.
Meanwhile, on the controversial appointment of Parliament's public account committee (PAC) deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh as Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) chairman, Anwar said it is acceptable as SEDA is not a business entity.
"It is a statutory body, not a GLC," he said.
