The resignation marks an end to the public outcry arising from Noh's appointment to the Petronas-controlled shipping group on June 1.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): Newly-appointed chairman of MISC Bhd Tan Sri Noh Omar (pictured) has resigned, less than three weeks after joining the board.

In a statement today, the shipping group said Noh has tendered his resignation effective yesterday (June 17).

"Tan Sri Noh Omar made the decision to tender his resignation upon discussion with the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia," the statement said.

"Tan Sri Noh Omar wishes the MISC board and its management all the best in spearheading the company to greater heights.

"Likewise, the board of directors of MISC wishes Tan Sri Noh Omar the very best in his future undertakings and endeavours," the statement added.

The resignation marks an end to the public outcry arising from Noh's appointment to the Petronas-controlled shipping group on June 1.

Noh, who has held ministerial positions in the federal government in the past, is currently an Umno MP for Tanjung Karang.

The appointment joined a slew of other political appointments to the leading positions in government-linked companies which occurred soon after Perikatan Nasional took over as the federal government in late February.

At midday break, MISC shares dipped 2.58% or 21 sen to RM7.93, for a market capitalisation of RM35.39 billion.
