KUALA LUMPUR (June 1): National shipping company MISC Bhd has appointed former minister Tan Sri Noh Omar as its chairman, effective immediately.

Noh, 62, takes over from Datuk Ab Halim Mohyiddin, who remains as an independent and non-executive director of the company, MISC said in a filing today.

Noh has been a member of Parliament for the Tanjung Karang constituency since 1995.

He was appointed to the Federal Cabinet in 2008 serving as the Minister for Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development till 2009. He then served as the Minister for Agriculture and Agro-based Industry from 2009 to 2013, and was Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government from 2016 to 2018.

MISC, a 57.56%-owned unit of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), is engaged in energy-related maritime solutions and services.

Shares of MISC fell seven sen or 0.84% to close at RM8.23 today, for a market capitalisation of RM36.74 billion.
