KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): Muar has been added to the country's list of red zones as the number of infections rose to 44 yesterday. With that, there are currently 27 red zones, where the number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases has exceeded 40, nationwide.

Muar is the fourth red zone area in Johor. As of yesterday, there were 480 confirmed cases in the State, and Kluang is the district with the most infections at 201, followed by Johor Baru (184), and Batu Pahat (51), according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Kluang is the first district that the Government imposed a lockdown on. Yesterday, the Government announced the extension of the enhanced movement control order until April 28 in Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam, Kluang.

Johor is the State with the highest number of infections outside the Klang Valley, where the total has risen to 2,592 cases, more than half of the country's total of 4,987 as of yesterday.

In the Klang Valley, Lembah Pantai continues to be the worst-hit coronavirus hotspot with 572 cases or 11.5% of the nation's total as of noon yesterday, according to the MoH.

Lembah Pantai, which covers Bangsar, Kampung Kerinchi and Pantai Dalam, has topped 500 cases, which is higher than other countries in Asia such as Taiwan with 393 cases, Vietnam (267) and Brunei (136).

On March 31, the number of infections in the Klang Valley (Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur) was 960. It rose to 2,252 cases as of noon yesterday, said the MoH.

Of the 27 red zones, Hulu Langat is the zone with the second-highest number of cases in Malaysia. It has registered 433 cases, followed by Petaling 359 and Seremban 261.

Other red zones in the Klang Valley include Kepong 131, Titiwangsa 122, Gombak 141 and Klang 167.  

In Sabah and Sarawak, Kuching has recorded 240 cases after adding 13 new infections, from 227 on April 13. Tawau's cases remain at 79, while Kota Samarahan added two more infections, bringing the total to 51 cases.

Meanwhile in Sabah, Kota Kinabalu is now on the brink of being classified as a red zone with 40 cases recorded.

Five new positive COVID-19 cases were recorded in Sabah yesterday, bringing the tally to 285 in the State.
