KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): A total of 36 new COVID-19 positive cases were found under the Pedas cluster today, up just one case reported yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
This brings the total positive cases detected in the cluster to 256, of whom 242 are foreign workers and 14 Malaysians, according to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.
Of the foreigners, 136 are from Nepal, 55 from Bangladesh, 26 from Myanmar, 21 from Indonesia, three from India and one from Vietnam.
Noor Hisham said the Ministry has detected these new positive cases through repeated screening of those who have been placed under quarantine.
On May 2, the MoH identified the new cluster of infections linked to a factory worker in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan.
The index case, who started feeling unwell on April 5 with fever, cough and flu-like symptoms as well as breathing difficulty, was diagnosed COVID-19 positive a week later.
Malaysia’s new COVID-19 cases jumped to 93 today, of whom 91 involved non-citizens, while two were Malaysians. This brought the total number of infections in the country to 7,970.
