KUALA LUMPUR (April 6): There are two more main clusters of Covid-19 infections that are related to mass gatherings, according to the Ministry of Health.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in today's statement that the two main clusters have contributed to the increase in the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country. According to him, the two clusters have developed fifth generations of infections.
One cluster of infections was from the three-day religious gathering in a church in Kuching. A total of 83 individuals tested positive and two deaths were reported. There are five patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU), in addition to the 50 who were admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, 25 attendees are in the quarantine centre and one patient has been discharged.
The cluster of 88 infections was from the wedding ceremony at Bandar Baru Bangi.
In this cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said, one is currently in the ICU. No death has been reported so far.
The DG urged the public to play their role to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infections and avoid blaming others who are related to the cluster.
MoH announced 236 recoveries today as of noon — the biggest rise in a single day. This brings the total number of cured cases in the country to 1,241.
There were 131 new cases reported today. Malaysia has currently 3,793 of confirmed Covid-19 cases — the highest in Asean. The recovery is currently at 32.7% of the total positive cases.
There was one death reported today. The death toll is at 62.
