KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): The four-week Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) currently enforced in much of the country can be lifted if Malaysia manages to flatten the curve, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

"The projection of the CMCO is four weeks [but] if we can flatten the curve, we can go back to RMCO (Recovery Movement Control Order).

"That means you still have to comply with the SOPs (standard operating procedures) and allow normal activities to resume," said Noor Hisham at a media briefing today.

Last Saturday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the CMCO would be enforced in all states in Peninsular Malaysia, except for Kelantan, Perlis and Pahang, for four weeks starting from today.

Besides that, the CMCO in Labuan and Sabah was also extended for the same duration.

On another note, Noor Hisham said the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (R0) now is around 0.95.

He said the R0 was reduced from 2.2, when the third wave started on Sept 20, to 0.95 today, following the enforcement of the CMCO.

R0, an indicator of how contagious the infection is, shows the average number of people who will contract the disease from a single infected person.

"We still have to increase our activities at the ground level, including the public health intervention, precautionary measures and et cetera. We hope we can bring the R0 down to 0.5 or 0.6," said Noor Hisham.

Malaysia reported 972 new Covid-19 cases today, lifting total infections to 41,181.
