KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): CIMB Group Holdings Bhd says a glitch affecting the credit cards of CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic Bank has been resolved.

In a statement, the group said CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic Bank had experienced technical issues, which in turn affected online credit card transactions.

“This has since been rectified. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers. Our core banking system and customer data remain intact. Customers are still able to perform banking transactions via our CIMB Clicks, CIMB BizChannel and Self Service Terminals,” the group said.

It was reported earlier today that national flag carrier Malaysia Airlines Bhd had advised customers to make payments via CIMBclicks or other alternative payment methods, as it claimed the bank had experienced technical issues with its card payment system.

Online shopping website Shopee also made a similar announcement.

CIMB group chief executive officer (CEO) Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz was reported to have said that the bank’s systems had not been hacked and told Bloomberg that all core banking systems “is business as usual”.

Shares of CIMB Group Holdings closed three sen or 0.60% higher at RM5.07 today, valuing the banking group at RM49.32 billion. Some 7.34 million shares were transacted.
