KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): Nearly 83% of the Covid-19 patients under categories 3, 4 and 5 reported today have not been vaccinated, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Category 3 patients are those with pneumonia, while category 4 patients are those with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy. Category 5 are critical cases requiring assisted ventilation.
Meanwhile, Category 1 patients are those with no symptoms and Category 2 are those having mild symptoms.
“2.1% of cases reported today were in categories 3 to 5 (82.7% of them with no history of vaccination), while 97.9% of cases were in Categories 1 and 2 (88.1% with no history of vaccination)”, said Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.
A total of 16,117 new Covid-19 cases were reported today – the second highest daily figure to-date – pushing the number of active cases to a new high of 170,224. This raised Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 infections to 1.04 million.
The latest infections were detected from the screening of 148,049 individuals in the past 24 hours, indicating a 10.89% positivity rate. In contrast, 119,110 people were tested yesterday, of which 14,516 tested positive.
The breakdown of the latest Covid-19 infections are as follows:
· 87 cases in Category 5 (95.4% of them unvaccinated)
· 124 cases in Category 4 (83.9% of them unvaccinated
· 135 cases in Category 3 (73.3% of them unvaccinated)
· 6,710 cases in Category 2 (79.5% of them unvaccinated)
· 9,061 cases in Category 1 (94.4% of them unvaccinated)
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccines hit a record high of 521,923 doses yesterday (July 26), compared with 399,135 the day before.
The previous record daily number of administered vaccine doses was 507,050 on July 22.
Cumulatively, 17.84 million vaccine doses have been administered in the country as of yesterday.
Of the 32.72 million Malaysian population, 12.13 million people or 37.07% have received at least their first dose, including 5.7 million or 17.45% who had been fully inoculated.
