KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): A record high number of 42 new Covid-19 clusters were reported by the Health Ministry today, including 25 in the workplace.

Another 12 clusters are in the community, while two others were linked to high-risk groups, two more to detention centres and one to an education institution.

The previous record high daily clusters of 37 was posted on July 16.

Of the 25 workplace clusters detected in the 24 hours as of noon, six were identified in Johor, four in Selangor, three in Sabah, two each in Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Pahang and Perak.

Fifteen of these workplace clusters comprise factories and positive cases were mostly detected via targeted screenings of factory workers, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement. 

These 15 clusters are:

·         Persiaran Laman Setia Sembilan detected in Johor where 15 positive cases detected

·         Lorong Perusahaan Bukit Minyak 22 detected in Penang  (14 cases)

·         Jalan Keluli Tiga Barat in Johor (13 cases)

·         Industri Batu 17 Saleng also in Johor (14 cases)

·         Jalan Tasek in Penang (10 cases)

·         Bukit Batu Bakri in Johor (15 cases)

·         Industri Jalan Senawang Dua in Negeri Sembilan (53 cases)

·         Dah Raya Industri Pendang in Kedah (33 cases)

·         Industri Batu Lapan Bakri in Johor (20 cases)

·         Lorong Helang Hindik in Kuala Lumpur (33 cases)

·         Jalan Beruas in Perak (12 cases)

·         Industri Kelombong in Sabah (23 cases)

·         Industri Jasmine Dua in Selangor (12 cases)

·         Industri Sungai Puluh Batu Lima in Selangor (16 cases)

·         Industri Jasmine Tiga in Selangor (29 cases)

To date, a total of 3,527 Covid-19 clusters have been detected in the country, of which 2,499 clusters have been declared ended, leaving 1,028 still active clusters.

This year alone, workplace clusters recorded the highest number of Covid-19 infections at 156,862, followed by community clusters (50,871), detention clusters (15,229) and education clusters (13,402), according to Health Ministry slides.

Today, a total of 16,117 Covid-19 cases were recorded — the second highest daily figure — pushing the number of active cases to a new high of 170,224. Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 infections increased further to 1.04 million. 

The latest infections were detected from the screening of 148,049 individuals in the past 24 hours, indicating a 10.89% positivity rate. In contrast, 119,110 people were tested on Monday, where 14,516 positive Covid-19 cases were identified.
