KUALA LUMPUR (March 14) : A 54-year-old man, known to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) as “Datuk Roy” (not actual name or title), who is said to be at the centre of the Jana Wibawa investigations, has been remanded by the Magistrates Court here for three days.

Magistrate Noorelyna Hanim Abd Halim granted the three day remand order, although the MACC investigating officer wanted the remand to be for seven days, which was objected by lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who appeared for the suspect.

“I told the magistrate (that) there is no concrete reason for the MACC to ask for seven days,” Fahmi said when contacted by The Edge.

As a result, Noorelyna allowed the 54-year-old suspect to be remanded for three days.

The person was said to have surrendered himself to the MACC on Monday (March 13) and following that, the application for him to be remanded was made on Tuesday (March 14).

The MACC had issued a statement on a lookout for the person named “Datuk Roy” in connection with the Jana Wibawa matter, who previously had a cheating conviction.

Jana Wibawa is a government programme which implementation was approved in 2020, aimed at easing the woes of Bumiputera contractors during the Covid 19 pandemic.
