KUALA LUMPUR (March 12): It has been a difficult time for the arts and culture industry. Many were forced to throw in the towel, including award-winning multi-lingual theatre outfit Dama Asia Productions. Artistic director Pun Kai Loon and producer/music director Khor Seng Chew share how the only thing that kept them going was their company turning 30 in 2024.

Dama is making a big-stage return this year with two fundraising shows, All That Glitz & Glamour (On The Silver Screen) in April and In Perfect Harmony Too in August, in an exercise they call a “lifeline for us, to subsist and make a comeback on the performing arts scene, as well as to join in the efforts to revive Malaysian theatre and provide work opportunities again for talents”. The Edge is the events’ main presenter.

Malachi Edwin Vethamani’s interest in poetry was piqued in Form Six, when he had to study TS Eliot for his Higher School Certificate. The 67-year-old academic has since gone on to create a body of written work one can truly be proud of. From publishing various fiction and non-fiction books to having his works adapted into plays in Mumbai, India, Malachi is driven by a strong desire to lend his voice to issues that do not get enough attention.
