KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 20): Payment platform PayPal has confirmed that unauthorised parties were able to access users’ PayPal customer accounts using their login credentials.

On Jan 19, DataBreaches, a site that reports data breach incidents worldwide, said PayPal had on Jan 18 sent breach notifications to 34,942 users.

The site reported that PayPal said the company has no information suggesting that any of the users’ personal information was misused as a result of this incident, or that there are any unauthorised transactions on their account.

It said there was also no evidence that login credentials were obtained from any PayPal systems.

“Based on PayPal’s investigation to date, we believe that this unauthorised activity occurred between Dec 6, 2022, and Dec 8, 2022, when we eliminated access for unauthorised third parties.

“During this time, the unauthorised third parties were able to view, and potentially acquire, some personal information for certain PayPal users.

“We have not delayed this notification as a result of any law enforcement investigation,” said PayPal.
