KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): Tenaga Nasional Bhd announced that Treasury secretary general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon @ Hamidin has resigned as non-independent non-executive director of its board.

Asri’s alternate director Faisal @ Pisal Abdul Ghani had also stepped down following Asri’s resignation, which was effective Thursday (Jan 5), said TNB in a stock exchange filing on Friday.

The latest boardroom changes in the utilities giant came less than a week after the resignation of chairman and former Rompin MP Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin on Jan 1.

Asri was appointed to the board on July 1, 2020 as an appointed director by MoF Inc, the special shareholder of TNB.

Last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said there is an impending change of the Treasury secretary-general, calling it a “normal” course of action.

Asri was appointed to the post in April 2020 under the government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, taking over from Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir after Ahmad Badri’s contract had ended.

It is reported that Asri is currently on leave, and that a deputy is acting in his stead.

Asri has three deputy sec-gens, namely Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican (Policy), Datin Rashidah Mohd Sies (Management) and Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin (Investment).

Shares of TNB were trading three sen or 0.3% lower at RM9.42 at the time of writing on Friday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM54.14 billion.
