KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): Malaysia logged a lower number of new daily Covid-19 cases at 25,099 on Monday (Feb 21) compared to 26,832 a day earlier, bringing the cumulative figure of infected individuals in the country to 3.25 million so far, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 22).

Dr Noor Hisham said Monday’s (Feb 21) 25,099 new cases comprised 25,014 and 85 local and imported infections respectively.

According to him, the nation reported that 17,749 persons had on Monday recovered from Covid-19, bringing the country’s cumulative number of recovered cases to 2.96 million so far.

Meanwhile, 272 Covid-19 patients are being treated at hospitals' intensive care units as at Monday, while the number of infected persons who need breathing assistance stood at 164, Dr Noor Hisham said.

The Ministry of Health also said in a separate statement that Malaysia had on Monday reported an additional 7,307 active Covid-19 cases, which brought the nation’s total number of active cases to 258,985 so far.

The ministry said the country registered on Monday 43 Covid-19-linked deaths, which included 13 brought-in-dead cases.

The 43 fatalities brought the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country to 32,390, which included 6,586 brought-in-dead cases, according to the ministry.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, out of Monday’s 25,099 newly-reported Covid-19 cases in the country, 24,999 comprised infected individuals in categories one and two while the remaining 100 cases comprised those in categories three, four and five.

Confirmed Covid-19 patients in Malaysia are classified into five categories.

According to the Ministry of Health's website, category one patients comprise those who are asymptomatic while category two patients are those who are symptomatic but with no pneumonia.

Patients in category three comprise symptomatic individuals with pneumonia, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the ministry said patients in category four comprise symptomatic individuals with pneumonia and require supplemental oxygen.

Category five patients comprise those who are critically ill with multi-organ involvement, according to the ministry.
