The infectious and deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has hit countries on all continents. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Covid-19 pandemic on 11 March 2020 and countries are restricting movement of people to mitigate the disease's exponential spread.

HOW TECHNOLOGY HELPS

Mitigating the risks of Covid-19 infection in workplaces and business premises and assisting in contact tracing are examples how technology can bridge the gaps to battle the virus.

"As a leading provider of integrated IT solutions in Asia with a track record of success spanning over 60 years, HKBN JOS has yet again harnessed technology as part of the response to battle Covid-19.

"HKBN JOS's Smart IoT Thermal Detection Solution helps businesses across industries mitigate the risks of Covid-19 infection in their premises," said Steven Soo, Managing Director of HKBN JOS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

HKBN JOS has a strong heritage in the region and has earned customers' trust through a reputation for high quality and always taking the long-term view in their best interests.

MALAYSIA'S SITUATION

The country is under movement control order (MCO) which involves social distancing, avoiding large crowds, closing of schools, working from home and reducing unnecessary travel so that efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infections can be carried out as best as possible.

Business hours are restricted. These include sundry shops, convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurants and F&B outlets in hotels (dine-in service is banned, takeaways and deliveries are allowed), vehicle workshops, and shops selling spare parts. And only one person can represent the family to go out to run essential errands and do essential matters.

The health ministry is also working with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 within the community, including contact tracing for health screening.

Meanwhile, 409 government buildings have been gazetted as quarantine stations nationwide to house Malaysians who return from Covid-19 hotspots overseas.

As of 7th April, the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Malaysia rose by 170, bringing the total to 3,963. There were 63 deaths while 1,321 patients have recovered.

The health ministry director-general has cautioned of a rise in new cases.

PROTECT YOUR EMPLOYEES & CUSTOMERS

Soo believes organisations can play a role by conducting stringent temperature checks for employees and customers in offices and retail space as a first line of defence.

He said HKBN JOS (Malaysia) is launching the Smart IoT Thermal Detection Solution (SITD Solution).

It is a cost-effective and well-timed service that uses advanced Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) thermal tracking technologies to detect abnormal body temperatures and help identify suspected infection before individuals enter offices, restaurants, retailers or schools.

This convenient contactless body temperature tracking solution supports real-time monitoring, smart alerts and record uploads via WiFi or 4G mobile network, without requiring a staff member to manually conduct thermal checking, thereby avoiding close proximity with those who may be infected.

KEY FEATURES OF SITD SOLUTION

(1)    Direct contact temperature detection. Scan the temperature of up to 20 people with effective distance of 1-3 metres.

(2)    Real-time mobile app alert notifications. Facial data storage will be captured in system for 30 days in the event that contact tracing is required.

(3)    Automated workflow process. Alert management of any abnormalities in visitor's temperature for necessary action to be taken.

Soo said the SITD Solution shows how technology is advantageous in efforts to control the outbreak in these unprecedented times.

For example, contact tracing would help reduce the spread of the virus as earlier notification means better protection for those around us or you.

AFFORDABLE, EASY TO INSTALL

To make the SITD Solution affordable for companies and retailers, particularly SMEs, during this challenging period, HKBN JOS (Malaysia) offers various SITD options to cater for the requirements of different businesses.

More sophisticated SITD options are also available for large-scale operations with higher requirements for traffic volume, tracking and management.

Quick on-site installation within just a few hours by HKBN JOS (Malaysia)'s professional team, can be arranged at a time convenient to business operators.
