KUALA LUMPUR (April 12): Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz will not be seeking re-election as the chairman of Sime Darby Property Bhd in the upcoming 48th annual general meeting (AGM), according to the property developer’s Annual Report 2020.

With this, the former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor — who is due for retirement at the group — will retain office until the close of the 48th AGM to be held on May 6 this year.

Zeti was appointed Sime Darby Property’s non-independent non-executive chairman on July 23, 2018, of which her tenure at the group will be of nearly three years.

She took over from Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar who retired from the position at the end of June 2018.

Apart from this position, Zeti is also the group chairman of Permodalan Nasional Bhd as well as the chairman of Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd. She also served as a member of the Council of Eminent Persons.

Checks on filings with Bursa Malaysia showed that the property developer had yet to announce the appointment of a new chairman.

At 10.09am today, Sime Darby Property shares were down by 1.5 sen or 2.17% at 67.5 sen, valuing the stock at RM4.59 billion. Over the past year, the counter had gained some 23% from 55 sen.
