(Dec 8): DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today asked the prime minister to disclose the name of the “kind-hearted” donor of the RM2.6 billion banked into Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s accounts ahead of the Umno general assembly starting tomorrow.

Lim also asked how Najib managed to attract such a generous donor who imposed no condition on the money.

“Who likes him to such an extent?” he asked, adding that Najib was not as well known internationally as former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Even today, people still know Dr Mahathir better. But likely, they would know about the PM who got a big donation, but maybe not his name,” Lim said sarcastically.

During an interview last night on TV3 with mainstream media bosses, Najib admitted receiving the RM 2.6 billion, which he said was a donation.

He said the money was transferred into his personal accounts “simply because it was the donor’s wish and also because the donation was made in a personal capacity”.

It was reported yesterday that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has interviewed the donor in the Middle East. However, the person’s identity remains a mystery.

Lim said the matter was unethical and the donor’s identity should be disclosed, adding that even investors were asking who the person was.

“Even the US president is not so lucky. Why is Najib so lucky while Malaysians are not so lucky.”

Lim also “extended his congratulations” to Umno and all other Barisan Nasional component parties on getting PAS as their new ally.

He made the remark after Najib said in the TV3 interview that the Islamist party has shown “encouraging signs of possible collaboration with Umno”, as seen from its actions in supporting Umno.

Najib, who is Umno president, said one of the positive signs was when PAS did not reject the Supply Bill 2016 when it was put to a vote at the Dewan Rakyat last month. Other opposition parties had all voted down the Budget 2016. – The Malaysian Insider
