3 art exhibitions to visit

Head over to Suma Orientalis for artist Ricardo Chavez Tovar’s exhibition Tropikal Avant-Dark. Inspired by the artist’s lifelong interest in myths and literature, this display uses the medieval medium of exposing objects onto light-sensitive paper to create interesting images. For artworks created by father and son, go to Sireh Pinang Gallery to view Dialects of the Soul — Expressions. The 46 original artworks were created by lawyer and self-taught artist Malcolm Fernandez and his six-year-old son Marc. Moved by watching his father paint from the tender age of two, Marc went on to create his first unassisted work of art at the impressive age of four. This first piece, named Wiper, is also part of the exhibit. Together, the father and son have created a display that is a series of visual explorations that delve into truth and fantasy, showing until July 20. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Taksu gallery is exhibiting at the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival 2019. Featuring contemporary artists from all over the world, such as Peter Panyoczki from New Zealand, Chris Cook from the UK, André  Mendes from Brazil and, from Phillipines, Atsuko Yamagata and Michelle Perez. Gear up with all your reusable and environmentally conscious essentials at Zero Waste Malaysia’s second Zero Waste Festival this weekend. Representatives of zero waste movements in Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia will be present to discuss their initiatives and how we can learn from each other. Part of the discussion will be about green clothing, food waste, hotel management and much more. The fest also includes an upgraded zero-waste mini exhibition, which has sustainability-related workshops, zero-waste solutions, eco-friendly vendors, composting solutions and much more. Spend your evening tomorrow at the annual Fête de la Musique hosted by Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur. The impressive line-up of live musicians include Banyakbunyikrepublik, Beverly Matujal, Annabelle Chian, Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men, Ryot Jones and many more. Also performing are bands all the way from France, such as This Way Down, Octave Mécanique and world-renowned French DJ Télépopmusik. Kicking off at 2pm, the show ends at midnight. Bringing back the successful show from 2017, klpac is presenting Let’s Rock 2 for a limited four-day run. Headliners include Fuad of Kyoto Protocol, vocalist Bihzhu and singer-songwriter Nick Davis. Backing them up will be the klpac Symphonic Band, the YCA Chorus and a four-piece band. This means that the stage will have an impressive grand total of 60 musicians and singers shaking up the room. Lina Jannah makes her Alexis debut with Shades of Love, a performance that presents her own material, influenced by Eva Cassidy, Gretchen Parlato, Raisa and Sara Gazarek. Introduced to western music when she moved to Kuala Lumpur, the singer was under the tutelage of Professor Dr Siti Chairani Proehoemen. Considered one of Australia’s fastest  comedians, Ciaran Lyons has won numerous awards including the Artists’ Choice award at the Wild West Comedy Fest in 2015, and the Next Gen Comedian by the Perth Comedy Festival at the young age of 16 years old. He has even been nominated for Best Comedy at Fringe World. A well-known face in the Australian comedy landscape, Lyons regularly presents on national youth station Triple J.
