(Oct 27): PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today said that party’s lawmakers did not raise placards over the prime minister’s RM 2.6 billion political donation in Parliament last week because they were not “street protesters”.

“We are MPs, not street protesters. Yes, we are the opposition, but we are opposition with manners,” the Islamist party leader said today.

Pakatan Harapan MPs last Friday raised placards reading “Mana RM2.6 billion?” (Where is RM 2.6 billion) right after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak finished tabling Budget 2016.

Only two out of PAS’s 14 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat raised the placards.

Other PAS leaders have since dismissed questions about the MPs’ non-participation, saying the party had always opposed Najib over the unaccounted RM2.6 billion but did not need to hold placards to make their point.

PAS is now on its own as an opposition party after refusing to join new pact Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

Hadi said PAS was an opposition party which “explains, not attack”.

“We practise a form of democracy that has proper manners.”

He also said PAS was willing to meet with government officials to offer its suggestions regarding several government policies.

“For example, we don’t agree with the goods and services tax (GST) but we are willing to meet and offer our suggestions about GST.” – The Malaysian Insider
