KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Unisem (M) Bhd, a provider of semiconductor assembly and test services, has temporarily suspended the operations of its Ipoh plant in Kawasan Perindustrian Pulai Jaya from July 25 in line with the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) by the government.

On July 24, the National Security Council had imposed EMCO on Bandar Pulai Jaya from July 26 to Aug 8, in which Unisem’s plant is situated.

“However, since Unisem is under the essential services sector of electrical and electronic (E&E), the company had applied and appealed to the authorities to be allowed to operate during this EMCO period.  Approvals and decisions from the authorities are pending," Unisem said in a bourse filing today.

“Assuming that the Ipoh plant is closed for the full duration of the above EMCO period, the capacity loss arising from the closure is estimated to be approximately 2% of the total annual output volume of the group,” it added.

The company assured that the safety and well-being of its employees and local community are always its utmost priority.

“We have always and will continue to maintain and adhere to the highest and most stringent Covid-19 preventive SOPs [standard operating procedures] to minimise the spread of the virus."

At noon break, Unisem shares closed down 15 sen or 1.84% to RM8, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM6.45 billion.
