KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Unisem (M) Bhd's net profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2022 (3QFY22) rose 53.3% to RM61.73 million from RM40.27 million a year earlier.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Thursday (Oct 27), Unisem said revenue for the quarter rose to RM439.69 million from RM366.36 million previously.

The company attributed the firm's earnings and increase in revenue to better average selling prices coupled with the appreciation of US dollar/ringgit and US dollar/Chinese yuan exchange rates.

Earnings per share for the quarter rose to 3.83 sen from 2.5 sen previously.

Unisem declared a second interim dividend of two sen per share to be paid on Nov 23.

For the cumulative nine months ended Sept 30, 2022, Unisem's net profit surged to RM318.28 million from RM140.32 million on the back of a revenue of RM1.33 billion versus RM1.14 million.

On its outlook, Unisem expects its performance for the next financial quarter to be satisfactory.

The company said it will attempt to limit the foreign currency exchange risk by having a natural hedge between its receivables and a portion of its payables/bank borrowings and may also enter into forward currency exchange contracts.

At the midday break on Thursday, Unisem's share price fell 2.07% or 0.5 sen to RM2.37 with 113,100 shares done.
