KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): The UMW group’s automotive sales surged to a new high in November 2022 as both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and Perodua — UMW’s associate company — registered record sales.

In a statement on Monday (Dec 12), UMW said it delivered 39,034 units in November 2022, 11% higher than the 35,130 units registered in October 2022, as both companies continued to fulfil their encouraging outstanding bookings.

It said year-to-date (YTD) in November 2022, the UMW Group delivered a total of 341,390 units, 48% higher than the 230,355 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021, which was affected by the implementation of the full movement control order (FMCO) from June 1 to Aug 15, 2021.

UMW said that UMWT registered its highest sales for 2022 with the delivery of 10,442 units in November 2022, 13% higher than the 9,281 units registered in October 2022.

YTD in November 2022, UMWT registered 90,595 units, a 44% growth compared with the 63,105 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021.

UMW said the Toyota Vios, Hilux and Corolla Cross were its best-selling models for the year.

Meanwhile, it said UMWT is offering special promotions for the purchase of selected variants of the Vios and Yaris as part of its year-end sales campaign.

Perodua achieved its highest ever monthly sales with the registration of 28,592 units in November 2022, 11% higher than the 25,849 units registered in October 2022.

The top three Perodua models sold in November were the Bezza, followed by Myvi and Axia.

Perodua also achieved its highest monthly production ever since inception with 29,149 units in November 2022.

For the first 11 months of 2022, Perodua’s sales surged by 50% to 250,795 units, compared with the 167,250 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021, surpassing its 2022 sales target of 247,800 units.

UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said both UMWT and Perodua increased their production in November, supported by the improving supply chain and will continue to ramp up production to hasten delivery of cars to customers.

“With the strong sales registered to-date, mainly due to the sales tax exemption as well as introduction of new models, we were able to achieve our sales targets for 2022 by November.

“We expect sales to remain strong in December based on the encouraging bookings,” he said.
