KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18): Thermoformed food packaging products supplier SCGM Bhd announced today, its subsidiary Lee Soon Seng Plastic Industries Sdn Bhd (LSSPI) received notification on Saturday (Jan 16) that two of its production floor workers have tested positive for Covid-19 in a routine test.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, SCGM said this resulted in a mass screening exercise carried out on all LSSPI employees.

Following the notification, the group said it immediately undertook some measures, including halted operations on its production floor on Jan 16 and 17, 2021, segregated hotel accommodations of Covid-19-positive workers to mitigate the potential spread of the virus, enforced mandatory quarantine measures on employees listed as close contacts, as well as deep cleaning through a professional third party provider to sanitise all premises encompassing the production floor, corporate office, cafeteria, hostel, guardhouse and all common areas.

“LSSPI has also activated its secondary protocol, the SCGM Bhd Business Continuity Plan — Secondary Protocol Policy, by enabling support functions to work off-site to ensure continuity in its business operations,” said SCGM.

Meanwhile, it said, LSSPI resumed operations today at a reduced capacity of 50% comprising automated machines, while labour intensive operations remain halted pending further instructions.

The group also said it is engaging closely with the Ministry of Health on the subsequent steps to be taken, adding that further updates will be provided upon advice by the ministry.
