KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 7): Two new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

They are the Malawati cluster in Selangor and the Awan Lembah construction site cluster involving Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, he said in a statement.

The index case in the Malawati cluster in Kuala Selangor tested positive for Covid-19 on Nov 30, through symptomatic screening. So far, 143 people have been screened, with 14 testing positive.

The Awan Lembah construction site cluster — involving the Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa districts in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Klang in Selangor — was reported after two index patients tested positive for the virus on Dec 4, through symptomatic screening and self-screening.

Dr Noor Hisham said both index patients are workers of a construction site in Titiwangsa. A total of 441 people have been screened, with 35 testing positive.

These two clusters accounted for a total of 49 infections.

Overall, a total of 390 clusters have been detected in the country. Currently, there are 187 active clusters, with 51 of them recording new cases today.

Among clusters recording high number of Covid-19 infections today were the Bakti cluster in Negeri Sembilan with 500 cases, the Batu Tujuh cluster in Johor with 53 cases, and the Tembok cluster in Kedah with 49 cases.

Meanwhile, a total of 203 clusters have ended including two today (Kertang and Sembulan in Sabah), as there were no new cases reported over the past 28 days.

Malaysia today reported 1,600 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the nationwide tally to 74,294.
