(Aug 12): The Transport Ministry will intervene in AirAsia Berhad's dispute with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) over the budget carrier's refusal to move to Terminal 1 of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), its minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.

Liow said he was disappointed as the airline and the airport operator were supposed to work together and should have resolved the issue by now.

"If they can't solve this issue, then I may have to step in. I will look into it because this issue has been long overdue.

"Of importance is the convenience of the travellers and also national interests," he said at a press conference after launching Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd's Nissan 4S Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor, today.

AirAsia is refusing to move to Terminal 1 of KKIA, and wants to remain operating from Terminal 2.

Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes today maintained the company's decision, saying it would affect operations.

Costs for passengers would increase and the move would also cause congestion, he said.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi yesterday had directed all airlines including AirAsia to move to Terminal 1. – The Malaysian Insider
