It can be difficult for businesses to begin measuring their carbon footprint without sufficient resources. Recently, a few Malaysian organisations have been working to create solutions to address this problem.

 1  ZeroC

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Network Malaysia & Brunei and Tata Consultancy Services Malaysia launched this digital emissions management platform in mid-April.

ZeroC is designed to help organisations set carbon reduction goals and monitor their carbon footprint via an interactive dashboard. It also breaks down the organisation’s carbon footprint to show trends in emission levels.

External vendors who are part of the supply chain can be integrated into the platform, so businesses can track their carbon performance. It also offers a marketplace for organisations to offset their emissions via certified vendors that are in compliance with industry standards.

ZeroC is currently only available for members of UNGC.

2  Pantas and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Fintech start-up Pantas signed a memorandum of agreement with UKM in mid-April to develop a carbon accounting software and climate transition equity index for companies in emerging markets.

The software leverages proprietary data collected by Pantas’ e-invoicing software and carbon emission factors co-developed with the UKM Institute of Climate Change. It is meant to help businesses calculate, monitor and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions.
