KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): Tabung Harapan, the trust fund set up by the government for Malaysians to contribute towards alleviating the country's debt, has collected RM31.44 million as at 3pm today, said the Finance Ministry.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the fund on May 30, and within 24 hours the government had collected RM7.08 million.

Donations to Tabung Harapan can be made via its official Malayan Banking Bhd account. The account number is 5660-1062-6452.

The Finance Ministry has announced that all donations are tax deductible.

Malaysia's total debt stood at a staggering RM1.087 trillion as at end-2017, according to the ministry.
