(Aug 12): Debris suspected to be from the missing MH370 flight washed up in the Maldives will be brought back to Malaysia for further verification, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.

Liow said the Malaysian team in the Indian Ocean archipelago is working closely with the Maldivian authorities to ascertain if the debris found could be wreckage from MH370, before it could be released to Malaysia.

"If it belongs to Boeing 777 then we will have to carry out further analysis and verification. If needs be, we will bring the parts back to Malaysia to carry out further verification.

"The parts are currently undergoing few processes before they can be released and brought to Malaysia for further identification and verification," he said in a press conference after launching Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd's Nissan 4S Centre in Shah Alam.

Liow also assured that all debris, whether in France or found in Maldives would be analysed by an international team.

"It has always been the international team, it's not the Malaysian team, especially in Toulouse," he said

"The Maldives debris if needs further verification, we will bring back to Malaysia, and it will be analysed by an international team as well," he said responding to MH370 families' doubts on Malaysian authorities' expertise and capabilities.

AFP reported that an MH370 families organisation, Voice 370 said in a statement that they wanted all debris be analysed at a reputable place with the appropriate expertise and equipment, including possibly the French government or other authorities from other advanced nations. – The Malaysian Insider
