LPI Capital Bhd

LPI (Fundamental: 1.7/3, Valuation: 0.35/3) is one of Malaysia’s leading general insurance companies.

LPI saw its share price surge a whopping 11.7% yesterday on the back of increased volume to close at RM20.66 — after announcing strong earnings for 4Q2014 as well as a proposed bonus issue and dividend payment on Wednesday.

LPI’s operating revenue and net profit have been increasing steadily from 2010 — 2013 but 4Q14 saw net profit jump 123.4% y-y to RM117.1 million. This was due to RM59.9 million of realized gains on disposal of investment in securities. Stripping out the one-off gains, net profit for full-year still grew a decent 10.8% to RM223 million.

In addition, the company proposed a second interim dividend of 55 sen per share, which goes ex-entitlement on 12 February. This brings total dividend for 2014 to 75 sen per share. The entitlement date for the 1-for-2 bonus issue will be determined later.
