Johan Holdings Bhd (+ve)Red Flag

SHARES in Johan Holdings Bhd (fundamental: 0.2/3, valuation: 0.9/3) triggered our momentum algorithm as the counter’s trading volume picked up with 12.49 million shares changing hands yesterday. In comparison, its 200-day average volume was only 857,827. The company was highlighted as a “red flag” by our proprietary algorithm, suggesting investors to exercise extra caution when trading in its shares.

The group last featured on “Stocks with Momentum” on Sept 21 when it was trading at 16.5 sen per share. Since then, its share price has jumped by 39.4% to close at 23 sen apiece yesterday. Year to date, it has increased by a significant 84% despite the lack of new announcement. However, Johan is related to George Kent Malaysia Bhd, whose shares have more than doubled year-to-date due to project wins in the infrastructure sector.

Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock and his spouse, Tan Swee Bee, are both major shareholders of Johan and George Kent. Kay Hock is also the chairman of both companies.
