KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 21): Deposits in the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i) have reached as much as RM475.6 million.

Education Minister Mazlee Malik, in a response to a question posed by Wong Kah Wong (Ipoh Timur-PH), said that from January to September 2019, some RM475.6 million entered SSPN-i as deposits, from RM400.7 million in the same period in 2018 and RM263.3 million in 2017.

He added that the National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) launched the SSPN-i Plus scheme in 2015.

From January to September this year, deposits in SSPN-i Plus have increased to RM106 million, from RM86 million in the same period last year and RM31.6 million in 2017.

"Currently, investment instruments that PTPTN invests in are short and medium term investments in the local financial market only," the minister responded.

Mazlee added that based on current deposits, PTPTN would be able to give a dividend of 4% a year, which is consistent with the funds deposits for the last five years.
