IPOH (May 7): The sole Perak MCA assembly member Datuk Mah Hang Soon will know whether he will be included in the Perak state executive council depending on the outcome of discussions at the party's national level leadership.

Mah's position as the sole representative of non-Malays in the Perak exco is in a limbo as MCA national level leaders have decided that its members will not hold any government position.

The decision was taken after the party received a worse trashing at the polls than it did in 2008.

Commenting on Mah's position in the state administration, newly sworn-in Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said that he will discuss the matter with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak before making any decision.

"What is important now is the direction from the national leaders. His (Mah's) win is extraordinary and I would like to see him being maintained in the coming exco," said Zambry in a press conference at his official residence today.

Mah was the sole non-Malay in the state exco when BN ruled from 2009 to 2013 as all the other candidates of the BN component parties lost in the 2008 election.

The scenario repeated itself on Sunday where BN component parties lost all the seats they contested in, leaving the BN multi-racial power-sharing principle in limbo.

In the previous state government, Zambry had appointed special aides to represent non-Malays.

Mah, who was present, said that he will serve alongside Zambry regardless of whether he has a position in the state exco.

He said that he was "hurt and saddened" at the voting trend among the Chinese voters whose support for the BN he said had dipped to the point that is "worrying".

"We live in a multiracial country and representation in the government from all races is necessary," he said.

Mah added that it was hard to prove that MCA had lost the trust of the Chinese voters. Instead, he said that the shift could be mainly because DAP's propaganda had worked, and because of allegedly misleading news sources on the internet.

Mah retained his Chenderiang state seat by wining 10,866 votes. He beat PKR's Amani Williams Hunt Abdullah who received 6,099 votes.

Zambry said that he would have discussions with Najib and Raja Muda Perak Raja Nazrin Shah before announcing the state exco line up in the near future.

There are 10 state exco seats which he said will see some new faces and some old faces from the previous exco.

Zambry who was sworn in as the Perak MB for the second time today said it was time to move on with work and not continue to politicise the election results.

He said this when asked to comment on the absence of all 28 opposition state representatives in today's swearing in ceremony.
They had boycotted the ceremony.

Zambry added that his priority now will be to continue the effective policies from his previous administration and to ensure peace and growth for the state.
