KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): Minetech Resources Bhd has appointed Datuk Awang Daud Awang Putera as its new executive chairman, following some boardroom changes it announced via stock exchange filings today.

Awang Daud succeeded Chin Kim Sang, who has been redesignated as executive director. Both changes took effect today.

Awang Daud is also a non-independent and non-executive director of Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd, which he co-founded. He is also a member of Serba Dinamik’s investment and management committees.

“Awang Daud has over 40 years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering. He was a part of the pioneer group which set up the mechanical workshop for the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) product and maintenance of Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd,” Minetech said.

Awang Daud has been increasing his shares in Minetech over the last two months since he emerged as a shareholder in the company on Feb 11. He currently owns a direct interest of 150 million shares or a 16.28% stake in the industrial firm.

Meanwhile, another exchange filing showed that Chin owns a direct interest of 182.10 million shares and an indirect interest of 48.06 million shares in Minetech. Chin is the father of Chin Leong Choy, Minetech's group executive director and substantial shareholder.

On Jan 10, Minetech announced it had bagged a RM27.69 million contract to undertake upgrading works at the Cheras-Kajang Expressway for the proposed Emerald 9 Cheras development in Cheras, Selangor

Minetech is involved in the aggregate mining business and has a network of nine quarries around Malaysia and overseas, according to its website.

The firm also provides specialised civil engineering works including drill and blast services, earthworks, road pavement projects and building construction.
