SHAH ALAM (Nov 25): The Selangor state government has attracted RM45.539 billion worth of investments over the past four years.

The state has approved 1,221 manufacturing projects between 2010 and July 2014. The projects brought in a total of RM45.539 billion in investment value, of which some RM19.319 billion are foreign investments, said state executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim today.

Selangor has remained the favourite of domestic investors, who had invested some RM26.22 billion in Selangor in the same period, thus created 104,512 job opportunities, said Teng, who is also the the state's chairman of the investment, industry (SME), commerce and transportation.

Citing statistics from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), he said transport equipment was the largest investment industry in the state, recording a total of 188 projects worths RM13.32 billion.

"Of the total, some RM10.6 billion were domestic investments while 2.72 billion were foreign investments. It has created 23,321 job opportunities during the four year," he said. 

Teng was speaking in reply to a question from Tanjung Sepat assemblymen Mohd Haslin Hassan during the 13th state assembly sitting here on total foreign investments into the state in 2010-2015 and a breakdown of the investment value into various industries.

Statistics show that Selangor has approved 151 projects in the machinery and equipment sector, followed by electronics and electrical products (125), chemical and chemical Products (123), fabricated metal products (101) and plastic products (101).

Apart from that, the state also approved 93 projects for food manufacturing, rubber products (49), basic metal products (61), paper, printing and publishing (21) and furniture and fixtures (50).

Meanwhile, on an unrelated matter, Teng said the state is in the process of building the Hybrid Off River Augmentation Storage/System (HORAS) in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor, to ensure there will be no water disruption in future.

The project is expected to process an additional 600 million litres of raw water per day, he said.

"In addition to that, the state has also given green light to the Langat 2 water treatment plant. I believed by embarking on the two mitigation plans, the water crisis in the state should be resolved," Teng said.

"It its crucial for the state to provide better infrastructure to facilitate the economic growth of the state," he added.
