KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) announced today that it will facilitate closer collaboration between the capital markets in Malaysia and China, specifically on greater cross-border connectivity, exchange of technical expertise and human capital development.

In a statement today, SC chairman Datuk Syed Zaid Albar said prior to the working visit to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) on July 4, 2019, the capital market authorities of both countries have had numerous engagements in recent months to discuss initiatives for greater cross-border connectivity, exchange of technical expertise and human capital development.

"We look forward to deepening the ties between Malaysia and China through this collaboration," he said.

During the discussions, SZSE chairman Wu Lijun emphasised the strong success of the stock exchange in financing innovative Chinese companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including those in the technology and advanced manufacturing sectors, which are closely aligned to Malaysia’s economic priorities.

As a matter of fact, SC pointed out that there are already a number of SZSE-listed companies operating in Malaysia under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), creating natural synergies and opportunities for collaboration between both countries’ capital markets.

Following the recent working visit, SC said that it, along with Bursa Malaysia, will hold further in-depth discussions with SZSE to define and sharpen the value proposition of the collaboration, and work towards implementing these initiatives.
