KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 16): Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and the state Barisan Nasional (BN) will reconsider their loyalty to Datuk Seri Najib Razak if the prime minister is found guilty of any offences related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“I might consider that. (But) until then, he is innocent and has done no wrong.

“Our loyalty to him right now is because he is the prime minister of Malaysia and head of the BN,” he said in his winding-up speech at the state assembly in capital Kuching.

“Najib has not been found guilty in all the accusations related to 1MDB,” he told opposition lawmakers who had equated his support for the prime minister to supporting the racist policies of Umno and Najib’s alleged role in the state investor including the RM2.6 billion “donation” funnelled into his personal account.

He said only DAP was making accusations and there had been no conviction so far. He was referring to Petaling Utara MP Tony Pua who had raised the 1MDB issue.

Adenan then asked opposition lawmakers if they were willing to withdraw support for DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on mere accusation.

The question immediately drew loud thumping from BN backbenchers.

The issue on the chief minister's support for Najib cropped up when Dudong assemblyman Yap Hoi Liong interrupted Adenan during the winding-up debates in the state assembly today.

Yap asked how was Adenan reconciling the fact that despite managing to prevent Umno from coming into the state, he was still supportive of the party president.

Yap also wanted Adenan to give his assurance that Umno would not enter the state even after he had left office.

“We Sarawakians totally reject Umno.

“But the assurance is only valid in your lifetime. We cannot have this kind of uncertainties,” Yap said.

Adenan said if Yap wanted assurance, the assembly could move a motion to have a legislation to bar not only Umno from coming into the state but also all peninsula-based parties like DAP, PKR and PAS.

Yap kept silent when Adenan asked him if DAP could give their guarantee to support such a motion.

“I am prepared to disallow them from coming. Are you prepared (from allowing DAP from coming)?”
