KUALA LUMPUR (June 28): The government has allocated an additional RM400 million to increase the nation's supply of Covid-19 vaccines as outlined under the PEMULIH stimulus package, according to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

This means the total supply of Covid-19 vaccines ordered by the government is sufficient to cover 130% of the Malaysian population, Muhyiddin added.

The prime minister stressed that the additional vaccine supply is imperative for the country to start the vaccination process to inoculate 6.4 million teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years, with the highest priority given to SPM students this year.

“To increase daily vaccination rate, the government agreed to open 29 new vaccine administration centres (PPVs), upgrade existing PPVs, implemented drive-thru PPVs, mobile PPVs and home-to-home outreach program with a total allocation of RM200 million.

“To date, the government has opened a total of 341 PPVs nationwide, consisting of 320 public PPVs, 13 mega PPVs and eight IPT PPVs,” he said in a national address today.

Muhyiddin also highlighted that recently, the government has agreed to increase the allowance for health volunteers who are on duty for more than 12 hours per day, to RM100 starting this month from RM50 previously.

In total, the prime minister said the government has allocated RM1 billion to expedite the vaccination programme in its PEMULIH stimulus package revealed today.
