KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): Parliament's Special Select Committee (PSC) on Public Appointments chairman William Leong (PH-Selayang) said it will produce a report on its meeting with newly-minted Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Khoya today.

Speaking to reporters after their meeting at Parliament today, Leong said she met with the committee for 45 minutes.

"During our meeting, we asked questions, mainly over the perception of Latheefa's appointment [as MACC chief]; we received full and complete answers alongside full cooperation [from Latheefa]," he said.

Meanwhile, Latheefa said she was satisfied with the meeting today and said a variety of questions were posed to her, and that she thought she had answered the committee's questions to the best of her ability.

Earlier today, Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (PBB-Santubong) said Latheefa's appointment was legitimate as per the law, adding that PSC does not have any power to compel Latheefa to meet with them, as there were no such provisions under any laws or standing orders.

Wan Junaidi added that there is a need for the government to amend current laws and standing orders, so there is more transparency over major public appointments.

Latheefa was appointed as MACC chief commissioner by prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last month, without consulting his cabinet ministers, prompting some quarters to raise questions over the lack of transparency over her appointment and her ability to be impartial, given her past as an active and senior member of PKR.

She will serve as the head of the commission for two years, effective June 1, 2019.
