(Sept 14): Police said they will only commence investigations on the alleged attempts to topple the government by various individuals after they have interviewed jailed former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police are still awaiting the green light from Thai authorities to take Justo's statement on allegations that he had given the documents stolen from his employer to several Malaysians including The Edge Media Group publishers.

"We have to record his statement before we proceed further in our investigations and also before we call in those implicated in the case," he said in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

"We are still awaiting a response from the Thai authorities to interview him in prison."

Justo is currently serving out his three-year sentence in a Thai prison for blackmailing his former employer with information on the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Police are currently investigating The Edge's Tong Kooi Ong and Ho Kay Tat under Section 124 of the Penal Code for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Khalid had previously said that DAP lawmaker Tony Pua is being probed for attempts to topple the government.

This follows reports from local dailies New Straits Times (NST) and Berita Harian last week implicating the three and also PKR lawmaker Nurul Izzah Anwar for having had communications with Justo, based on his written admission.

NST reported that Pua had allegedly admitted to introducing Sarawak Report founder and editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown to The Edge Media Group bosses.

Nurul Izzah, according to the dailies, had allegedly offered Justo US$2 million (RM8.6 million) in contracts in exchange for information on 1MDB, which the latter had stolen from PetroSaudi. – The Malaysian Insider
