KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 5): Police will investigate pro-Umno blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris Mohamad, also known as Papagomo, for assaulting a foreign worker.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said Papagomo had undermined the police by taking action on his own against a man said to be a Pakistani who had allegedly harassed his sisters.

"We will take action if there is a report. Even if there is no police report (lodged), we will investigate," he said after attending the Ops Selamat 8 campaign at the Sunway toll plaza in Petaling Jaya today.

Papagomo was recorded on video slapping, pushing and kicking the man whom he accused of harassing two of his younger sisters and two other friends.

The video has gone viral on social media and earned more than 500,000 likes and over a million views.

"We don't want people to take the law into their own hands," Noor Rashid said.

He said everyone was subjected to the law regardless if they were foreigners or citizens of the country.

"If we beat anyone, foreigner or anyone and cause injury, we have committed an offence."

He, however, said he was not informed of any police report lodged against Papagomo.

Despite the assault, many Facebook users had praised Papagomo for protecting his sisters.

In a Facebook post, Papagomo said he had done what an elder brother was supposed to do to defend his sisters.
