KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 23): Pecca Group Bhd said it has resumed production operations after completion of Covid-19 testing of more than 600 employees, adding it does not expect any financial impact from the six-day closure of its factory.

The car leather upholstery maker had announced last week that one of its workers had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and that it would shut operations for six days, commencing Nov 17.

In a statement today, the group said results obtained from tests conducted, confirmed two employees tested positive and are now receiving medical care as per Ministry of Health (MoH) regulations.

At the same time, close contacts of the two confirmed cases remain in quarantine and will be tested once again on Nov 25. Pending results of the second test, they will not be allowed to return to operations, the group said.

Meanwhile, Pecca’s production operations are currently manned by employees who tested Covid-19 negative, as well as employees who had no close contact with positive cases.

“We believe that our adherence to strict standard operating procedures even before these positive cases, followed by swift implementation of production halt and quarantine measures, helped us contain the spread within our premises,” said Pecca group managing director Datuk Kelvin Teoh.

“We do not anticipate material financial impact from the six-day closure, and look forward to continue serving our clients with the same reliability as before,” he said.

He added that in line with MoH’s latest advisory and review of existing preventive measures, Pecca would continue its practice of disinfecting premises three times daily, and raise budget allocations for more stringent safety practices.

“We continue to extend our assistance to help affected employees recover, and ensure that those still undergoing quarantine receive adequate support. We also continue to work with MoH to ensure that the situation is successfully mitigated,” said Pecca.
